SEEKING

Equity actors, singers, and dancers for roles in Wick Theatre 2023-24 Season (see breakdown).

Local actors are encouraged to attend.

We encourage all actors to audition regardless of race, color, creed, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, age, ability or veteran status.

PREPARATION

Please prepare two brief cuts of two contrasting songs showing range, legit and belt. Accompanist will be provided.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

Ensemble: Three men and three women. 6 triple-threat performers. While the cast retain their identities and names throughout the show, they play different characters in different time periods.

Albert Peterson: Early 30s Energetic bundle of nervous energy. President of the Almaelou Music company and Conrad Birdie’s agent. Baritone C flat to F flat

Rosie Alvarez: Late 20s – early 30s Albert’s secretary and girlfriend. Efficient, vivacious and fiery. Mezzo-Soprano A flat to C

Conrad Birdie: Late teens – early 20s Flamboyant singer/dancer. Elvis type, over the top rock star, heart throb. Baritone D flat to E flat

Kim Macafee: Mid to late teens Sweet, excitable but self-absorbed teenager. The lucky member of the Conrad Birdie fan club to be chosen for the last kiss. Soprano A to A flat

Harry Macafee: Early 40s – late 50s Kim’s dad. Highly strung, controlling and traditional but loving. Baritone C to E

Dorris Macafee: Early 40s – 50s Kim’s mum. Bit of a 1950s housewife. Excitable, a little overwhelmed. Mezzo-Soprano C flat to E

Randolph Macafee: 7-10 years Randolph is Kim’s precocious but cute little brother. Confident, some singing required. This role will be double cast. Some solo singing.

Hugo Peabody: Mid to late teens Kim’s steady. Fun loving, comedic. Gets very jealous of Conrad. No solo vocals

Mae Peterson: Late 50s + Albert’s emotionally manipulative mother. Has a Jewish accent and comic timing. Non singing role

Ursula Merkle: Mid to late teens Kim’s best friend. Hyper- enthusiastic member of the Conrad Birdie Fan club. Mezzo-soprano E to F

Harvey Johnson: Mid to late teens Member of teen ensemble. Struggling to find a date. Comedic. No solo vocals.

Gloria Rasputin: Late 20s to early 40s Featured role. Singer, strong dancer, excellent comic ability needed. Tap dancer preferred. Mezzo-soprano C flat to E (negotiable)

Teen Ensemble: Mid-teens to early 20s. A number of featured ensemble roles will be cast from this group. Dancers and singers with range.

Adult ensemble: Mid 30s + A number of featured ensemble roles will be cast from this group. Will participate in scene work and some musical numbers.

TEVYE - Male, 35-60s - Range: Ab2 - F5 The likeable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures.

GOLDE - Female, 25-60s - Range: A3 - Eb5 Tevye's strong-willed wife who wishes for her daughters to have good husbands and live easier than she and Tevye.

TZEITEL - Female, 18-25 - Range: B3 - D5 Tevye's eldest daughter, who is madly in love with Motel. She is loyal to her family but typically challenges the town's traditions.

HODEL - Female, 18-23 - Range: B3 - E5 Tevye's second eldest daughter, who becomes involved with Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join Perchik in Siberia.

CHAVA - Female, 15-20 - Range: B3 - D5 Tevye's middle daughter who loves to read. Falls in love and runs off with Fydeka, a Russian soldier.

SHPRINTZE - Female, 9-12 - Range: B3 - D5 Tevye's fouth eldest daughter who takes lessons at home from Perchik.

BIELKE - Female, 6-9 - Range: B3 - D5 Tevye's youngest daughter. Takes lessons at home from Perchik.

MOTEL - Male, 18-30 - Range: E3 - F#4 The poor and meek tailor who shares a deep love with Tzeitel. Sensitive and nervous, but sincere and friendly.

PERCHIK - Male, 20-30 - Range: B2 - E4 The outspoken student and visitor to Anatevka, who constantly challenges the traditions of the town. He eventually falls in love with Hodel.

FYEDKA - Male, 18-25 - Speaking Role A strong, young Russian soldier who sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye's imposed silence.

LAZAR WOLF - Male, 40s-60s - Range: C3 - F#4 The feisty, brawny butcher and the town's wealthiest citizen who wishes to marry Tzeitel.

YENTE - Female, 30s-60s - Range: F3 - F5 The meddling matchmaker. She is a widow and village busybody who knows all of the town gossip.

CONSTABLE - Male, 35-60 - Speaking Role Russian military official stationed near Anatevka who knows the villagers well, however he has superficial relationships with the villagers.

There is a large ENSEMBLE of Villagers that will make up all different kids of families! Russian Soldiers and Dancers as well! Both speaking and non-speaking roles are available. The ensemble is heavily used in this show.

CAROUSEL

Seeking:

Billy Bigelow--handsome, cocky, charismatic barker for Mullin's Carousel. Proud, troubled, hard headed, torn between right and wrong. In love with Julie Jordan. A strong singer.

Julie Jordan--quiet, naïve mill worker who falls in love with Billy Bigelow. Julie has an inner strength and maturity in the second act as the mother of fifteen-year-old Louise. A strong singer.

Carrie Pipperidge-- lively, funny friend and coworker of Julie Jordan. In love with Enoch Snow, Carrie offers a light-hearted balance to Julie's seriousness. A strong singer.

Enoch Snow-- a bumbling, adorably shy fisherman with big plans for the future. A successful and somewhat pompous business owner in the second act. A strong singer. Tenor.

Nettie Fowler-- Soft-hearted, hearty coastal woman who owns and runs a seaside business. Nettie is Julie's strength throughout the show. A strong singer. Motherly figure to Julie.

Jigger Craigin-- the dangerous, menacing seaman friend of Billy's who ultimately leads Billy astray. A con man with a bit of humor and an eye for Carrie Pipperidge. A strong singer.

Mrs. Mullin-- middle-aged widow and owner of the carousel. Jealously in love with Billy. This role may double with the ensemble.

Mr. Bascombe-- the very strict owner of the local textile mill where Julie, Carrie and the other girls work. This role will double with the ensemble.

Starkeeper/Dr. Seldon-- a heavenly figure. Dr. Seldon is the earthy version of the Starkeeper. This role may double with the ensemble.

Heavenly Friend-- an angel sent to bring Billy to the Starkeeper after Billy's death. This role will double with the ensemble.

Louise-- a major dancing role. Louise dances the entire ballet in the second act. A non-singing role. Enoch Snow, Jr.-- the son of Enoch and Carrie, he appears in the second act. He likes Louise (Julie & Billy's daughter) but thinks she is beneath his station. This role will double with the ensemble.

Ensemble-- all types and vocal ranges. Townspeople, including: the girls from the mill, seafaring men, policemen, ship captain, principal, etc. Plus, 9 Snow children ages 7-17.

BUDDY-THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY

Rehearsal start: Tuesday, March 26, 2024

First Performance: Thursday, April 11, 2024

Closes: Sunday, May 5, 2024

The show/ensemble roles will be formed based on the abilities of the performers who are cast. Seeking:

Buddy Holly (Male 18-30) - Singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, Texas. Plays guitar, has a great feel for rock ‘n’ roll. Ethnicity: Caucasian

Joe Mauldin (Male 18-30) - Double bass player from Lubbock, Texas. Ethnicity: Caucasian Jerry Allison (Male 18-30) - Great rock and roll drummer from Lubbock, Texas. Ethnicity: Caucasian 4th Cricket (Male 18-30) - Great lead guitarist. Ethnicity: Caucasian

Ritchie Valens/Others (Male 18-30) - Serious charisma, a dedicated eye for the ladies, and the ability to hold the stage in his own right. His key song is “La Bamba.” Ability to play a musical instrument a plus. Ethnicity: Latino / Hispanic

Big Bopper/Others (Male 25-35) - A former DJ, he is a Texan with an irrepressible larger than life character with the ability to command the stage on his own as a single performer. His key song is “Chantilly Lace.” Ability to play a musical instrument a plus. Ethnicity: Caucasian

Maria Elena/Others (Female 18-30) - Buddy’s wife. Classy and well-educated. Ability to play any instrument is a plus, but not necessary. Ethnicity: Latino / Hispanic

Hipockets Duncan (Male 35-50) - An exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, Texas, with an air of authority and a keen sense of humor. Ability to play a musical instrument a plus. Ethnicity: Caucasian

Norman Petty/Others (Male 35-50) - A record producer from Clovis, New Mexico, with a businesslike manner and a love of making records. Ability to play a musical instrument a plus. Ethnicity: Caucasian Vi Petty/Others (Female 30-40) - Norman Petty’s wife, has a heart of gold. Has exceptional rock ‘n’ roll piano ability, with a good sense of humor. Ethnicity: Caucasian

Apollo Performers (Males and Females 18-40) Great singers with quick comic timing. Key song “Shout.” Ability to play a musical instrument a plus. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent

Ensemble (Male/Female 18-35) - Any combination of actor/singer/dancer/musician to fill out the core ensemble roles throughout the show. Any ethnicity.

Additional instruments necessary for the end concert: Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Keys 1, Keys 2
