Feeling the college burn out? Me too. What should you do about it?
My brain has officially melted and The Remains are living in the cracks of the New York City sidewalks. There are three weeks left of school and I'm fighting to stay present. I am beyond burnt out. When you're in the homestretch of semester two it makes it hard to not feel emotionally and physically drained. We have made it so far and now I feel like I'm just crawling to the finish line. So. How do we survive the next few weeks?
I'm sure your schedule is filled with final exams, projects, etc. so giving yourself time to breathe is a necessity. I think first and foremost, taking care of yourself and giving yourself a break is incredibly important. Make sure that you pack your free time with rest (sleep is a must!) but also things that will fill you up, like seeing a show, walking to the pier, or a picnic with friends. Anything to keep yourself motivated and focused on successfully getting to the finish line. Planning ahead and giving yourself time to get work done will also make your busy schedule less stressful.
I know for me, seeing a musical or play always fuels me artistically and motivates me. I recently saw "Shucked" on Broadway, and I felt the magic of live theater soak into my skin. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life. I went to class the next day ready to WORK, so I could one day make it onto a Broadway stage. Seeing art that inspires me really does help me cure my burnout. You can also treat yourself to some ice cream or a nice meal for a little pick me up!
What motivates YOU? What inspires YOU? Burnout is real, but finding things that will pull you out of the exhausted state of mind totally cures it. Hang in there, only a few more weeks!
