<>A.C.T. Studio Theatre Presents Festival of Short Plays
<> A.C.T. Studio Theatre will present a Spring Short Play Festival May 19 – 28. “Designer Shorts 2” is A.C.T.’s second writer’s competition featuring the work of local playwrights focused around one central theme. This year’s theme is “Secrets.”
South Florida playwrights were invited to participate in the competition. Based on a set of submission guidelines, thirty plays were scored by “blind” committee. The seven plays with the highest scores are being produced and will be performed weekends May 19 – 28.
All seven short plays will be presented during each performance. Playwrights include Todd Caster, Ellen Gillette, Richie Lester and Marj. Oneill-Butler. The short plays include “That Woman From Florida,” “Into Wishin’,” “Second Sight,” “Bridge Walker,” “Spinning,” “Pleasant Palms,” and “Home for the Holidays.” They deliver stories of life’s challenges, the healing that comes with insight, surprise romances and inevitable losses. Some are dramas with a touch of satire; others are poignant with a sprinkle of humor.
Each play serves as a small vignette—often witty, sometimes touching, but always entertaining—that offers a unique perspective into the timely theme and how it helps shape our lives. Woven together, “Designer Shorts 2” will provide a thoughtful and moving afternoon or evening of theater.
Performances will be on stage at A.C.T. Studio Theatre May 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28. Show times are Fridays at 8:00 p.m.; Saturdays at 3:00 and 8:00 p.m.; Sundays at 3:00 p.m. For tickets and information, please visit actstudiotheatre.com or call (772) 932-8880. Reserved seating is $26. A.C.T. Studio Theatre is located in the Cedar Pointe Plaza, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart.
