While LuPone has found fame performing solo concerts of show tunes, theatre has remained her lifeblood. And now? "I love the stage but I'm taking a break from it. I'm tired. I'm tired of eight shows a week. I mean, if I go back, I'm gonna say it's not gonna be eight shows a week.
And I don't want to go back to Broadway. I love the West End. I would rather work in London theatre.
I would love to work at the National. I would love to work at the Almeida, the Donmar. I don't want to work on Broadway anymore because it's a circus."
Well Patti I’d love you to guest star with Bernadette in Old Friends….
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Fun interview. I thought the most interesting thing was that it was The Anarchist that brought her to Ari Aster's attention, leading to her casting in Beau is Afraid. So at least something good came out of The Anarchist.
If only she'd actually follow through. She's talented, but incredibly unpleasant in interviews and public appearances. She's exhausting.

Wait, so she doesn’t want to do an 8 show a week Broadway schedule but she does want to do an 8 show a week West End schedule? Make that make sense. She’s EXHAUSTING!
Patti, while obviously a great performer over the years, has really shown the worst side of herself over the past decade. She does nothing to help charities, organizations or other actors. You see people like Bernadette and Stephanie J. Block helping everywhere they can, meanwhile Patti tells everyone to "figure it out" and she's not dealing with it. Please go away and just stop.

Actually, as someone who knows and works with BCEFA and most of the other big Broadway charities and organizations, I can say with certainty that she has very rarely if ever helped out any of them. She just doesn't do any work helping others. I'm sorry that is hard for you to hear. It doesn't take away from her talent, just speaks to who she is as a person."
Do you mean she has never done anything like this?
Patti is wildly talented and incredibly charitable. She did a Zoom concert during the pandemic to help struggling theatres and always contributed her talent over the years.
That being said she is always insulting someone publicly. I experience her as crass and mean-spirited. She seems highly insecure and it’s like Psych 101 when I see her antics. I feel embarrassed for her. You can be truthful and outspoken without being belligerent.

^ THIS. I love Patti LuPone, and think she is a great performer, but her negativity recently has been exhausting to say the least.
