She has supported GLAAD in the past, therefore she can completely disregard everything they represent? I don't get it. How has she helped the gay people of Dubai? The world goes beyond America.
I still like her music. She is a talented performer, and a talented businessperson. I do not believe she is an artist. Her own lyrics obviously mean very little to her, probably written by teams of songwriters instead of from her own heart. I do believe she is a good person at heart. I've seen her live twice, she was good the first time. Emotional and heartwrenching. The second time, she was a soulless robot. She became a brand, a product. That's the part I don't like. Amoral capitalism.
I doubt you know any personally. Also, hm, what a strange thing to do. Why not keep Winston, and make Ono part of his surname? Or his whole name? Even parents who give their children both names, such as Sean Ono Lennon, for some reason always put the man's name last. Which gives it most importance. I really don't understand why people still do this, it is so demeaning to women. John was better than most, though, so that's something.

You are correct, do not know any personally. John Lennon hated his middle name (Winston) which is probably the reason.
Another thing. Okay, this is only a loose tie to Beyoncé... but why do men need to "put a ring on it"? I'm constantly surprised by how many modern hetero women still go for all this traditional BS. Why don't women propose? Why don't men get an engagement ring? It's a funny old world. I wonder how the feminist community get on in Dubai, where things are even worse.
What's wrong with being traditional? I would be proud to take my man's last name if we ever got married. I don't find it demeaning nor would I ever feel like his property if I did. I have also heard of women proposing. I personally would not do it and it's obviously not common, but it has happened. Calling traditions like that BS is no less offensive than someone saying "all this progressive BS."

Correct. Tradition and oppression are two very different things, and it's a bit alarmist that there's a suggestion that it's a problem that "men are the ones who propose."
News flash: all genders propose. Source: all the TikToks I see of it occurring. Source: lesbians, where sometimes they BOTH propose to each other simultaneously and no men were involved at all, nor no men's names were taken! It's also increasingly popular for women not to change their surnames.
There is nothing wrong with opting into tradition. There is also nothing wrong with opting out of tradition.
But as it relates to the hit song, it's pretty clear that Beyonce is just saying...if that guy likes me, he better prove it. It was not a deep song with hidden meaning.
I personally don't really get why she's been put on such a pedestal. She seems so boring to me. Yes, she has some good songs but she seems like such a lifeless robot lately. She always seems confused about what's happening and where she is and it makes me uncomfortable.
I did register for tour tickets though. Hoping if I get them I can resell them to pay for my Madonna tickets.
It's none of your business how/why/when people make money. Don't like it? Don't support them. Simple. Judging people left and right for flying/making money/traveling/doing anything other than sitting still in their apartment? How miserable. Get a life. Jesus.
Jay Lerner-Z, let me ask you something in a very polite and earnest tone.
Whether it be issues with Beyoncé or the traditions associated with marriage and courtship does impact you on a personal level regarding your day to day life? I only inquire because I don’t the notion of taking personal offense to something that has no impact on you to be a rather negative and illogical approach to something.
I guess, the better question to ask is this. If the issues you presented in this thread are not issues that you have had any sort of personal impact with, then honestly, why does it matter what someone else does or thinks about?
I find that to be a very sad question. Again, the GOP mindset... "why care about anybody but ourselves?" ... America first! I really don't understand what you mean. I am human and have a heart. That is all I can answer. Dubai is a homophobic and misogynist hellhole. Everything that Beyoncé claims to be against. Gay people are literally arrested and thrown in jail. I'm sorry, but she doesn't get to call herself an "ally" anymore. She has betrayed us.
As for patriarchy, of course that has had a profound impact on us all. Please don't tell me you need me to explain that you. Same with climate change, it too will catch up with us all... it already has.
"I find that to be a very sad question. Again, the GOP mindset... "why care about anybody but ourselves?" ... America first"
Respectfully disagree. There is nothing wrong with looking out for your country first, this does not mean you can't help others. Something bad happens in the world and what country is the first to help out. I would guess it is almost always America. Really, you don't think other countries in the world are more concerned about the welfare of their country than the rest of the world. Let's bring it down to a personal level. If you won a lot of money, would you not worry about your family first before deciding to help others.
Okay, I'll call it the "MAGA" mindset instead. These people have no souls.
I suppose what you mean is the "put on your own mask first" mentality, which is fair enough. Still, that doesn't mean you can actively do harm to others. Which is what Beyoncé has done by supporting these horrible people in Dubai.
I don't understand the point of lawns. All that pretty grass... for what? A waste of important water. Same goes for washing your care. Remember that, people.
