I know they both opened (and closed) early in this season but I really hope that The Kite Runner and Cost of Living get some well-deserved nominations because I thought that both of those shows were wonderful.

They would have said something by now in their eligibility rulings. It's most likely not gonna happen. It is possible, but it is EXTREMELY RARE for a replacement actor to get a Tony Nod.
^Even this comment is overselling the odds. It's not gonna happen - it's against Tony rules, and the past exceptions weren't comparable situations to this. They could choose to give her a special Tony, but as for a regular nomination? 0% chance.

My Guess is it will be Some Like It Hot with 12, followed by New York, New York with 10 or 11, and Kimberly Akimbo with 9 or 10 nominations. Although I could see Kimberly Akimbo jump to 11 or 12 if committee members put it as the 5th slot on their ballots in some technical categories. For right now I am thinking its gets at least 4 acting nominations along side Musical, Score, Book, Orchestrations, and Direction, but I could see it getting some technical noms especially when A Strange Loop was able to score Lighting, Sound, and Scenic design nominations last year.
Hard to say in regards to the musicals (KA will probably get the most nominations and I'm wholeheartedly rooting for this musical), but given that plays had much stronger 2022-23 season, I think Leopoldstadt and The Piano Lesson will rightfully lead them all, trailed by other wonderful straight plays productions that have already closed or just about to open by the deadline.
Regarding Funny Girl and Lea Michele-if they do this for her...they have to make a new category moving forward for replacements. Because other performers have replaced in shows and done incredible work. So. I don't believe she deserves to be an exception but what do I know-I'm not on the committee and I haven't seen her.
Do any of you stop to think about how you treat others? I have no problem blocking people :) Move along if you think you're better than anyone else, because I certainly do not think that about myself.

I was thinking exactly this! It seems like KA will have a lot of acting noms, NYNY a lot of technical noms, and SLIH a lot of both - although, when it comes to actually winning I could easily see KA + NYNY walking away with more than SLIH because they're stronger in each respective category than the comparable in SLIH. My prediction sheet had 13 nominations for SLIH but only 1 win for JHG, versus 8-10 for KA but 4-5 wins and 10-12 for NYNY with 5-6 wins.
Now that Newell is in featured actor, I think Kimberly Akimbo stands a much better chance of sweeping the Big 4 along with Leading Actress. Prior to that I thought it was possible to Shucked to be thrown a bone by voters on book or score, so it walks away with something, but now that Newell is the the clear favorite in featured actor all of that spread the wealth can be thrown out the window.
My predictions as of right now for wins:
Kimberly Akimbo- Musical, Book, Score, Direction, Leading Actress
Some Like it Hot-Leading Actor (Not I could still see Groban or Platt taking this, but Ghee is my choice)
Shucked-Featured Actor (Newell)
NY NY- Scenic Design, Orchestrations,
To be determined:
Revival - No Clear Frontrunner
Featured Actress- I think its Bonnie Milligan for Kimberly Akimbo to loose, but Betsy Wolfe might get it for voters wanting to give & Juliet something, and she is the heart of the show.
Choreography between NY NY and Some Like It Hot
Costume Design- No Clear Frontrunner
Sound Design- No idea
Lighting Design-probably NY NY but several shows this season utilize lighting including the revivals

It’s too late now, but this may be a good year for the replacement category. The last time they tried it, there weren’t enough nominations. But this year there are probably plenty of people who saw the phantom in addition to Funny Girl. I think Emilie deserves a nomination too.
That said, Lea’s performance is in a league of its own. Plenty of people who have seen it think it’s the best performance they’ve seen in their lifetime. So I wouldn’t be upset if she gets a special Tony. Even without the Tony, she may still get a Grammy to acknowledge her incredible performance.
There's no point in getting yourselves all worked up about Lea. It's not going to happen. However, I think if she comes back to Broadway quickly (as in next season) and is at all well received, she'll end up the frontrunner in her category and only be taken down by a much bigger name or a once in a generation performance.

While I wholeheartedly agree the show has its flaws, it wouldn't have been panned to the degree that it was if Lea Michele had opened the production.
I doubt KA's director will win. She was overlooked for several of the other awards--not even nominated for some. And her reviews were decidedly mixed. I bet the award goes to one of the directors of the revivals, Parade, for example.
Re: Revival, I would LOVE for Sondheim to start a streak, but my gut is telling me Parade.
Re: Featured Actress, Bonnie Milligan has long been considered the front-runner, but I kinda feel like it'll be Betsy Wolfe. Featureds can totally win for rolls of all sizes (Matt Doyle won last year for a one song performance). But, my understanding (I haven't seen the show yet), is that &Juliet REALLY feels like her show and I think that gives her a leg up.

Have you seen the Funny Girl? The production reviewed is the not same as the current production. Yes it’s the same book, set, score and largely the same cast, but it’s a completely different experience.

She most def would have been nominated and probably won a TONY for her performance.
What did you think of her performance?

That is an insane statement. She absolutely would have been nominated and she certainly might have beaten Joaquina though I think that would have been less of a sure thing than a nomination.

Are you saying this to get a rise out of people, because I think that may be the stupidest thing posted on this board in at least a year. IMO she would have won by a landslide, though neither of us could prove our position.
