Is Almost Good Enough, No It’s FABULOUS!
Heigh Ho, dear lovely rainbow tribe, welcome back to Bobby's CD sandbox where we offer our broken-down breakdowns of new music releases. So, strap in and get ready, as Bobby goes on the record ABOUT the record.
This new album entry in the BobbyFiles comes from a pair of old friends. Ann Hampton Callaway & Amanda McBroom have just released a new single and it is a must-listen for smooth jazz fans. ALMOST, with lyrics by McBroom and music by Callaway, is a "love is over" love song about an affair that came a little later than the blush of young love. "It was ALMOST April. We were ALMOST young" says Amanda's poem, just before Callaway's pulsing bosa nova beat takes over. The openness of the emotions is palpable, but they are also past the "raw" stage. There is a maturity in this music, and, in a duet between two women, one can hear a story of lovers who once had great passion and even love, but ALMOST was not enough for them. Callaway's soft but driving beat hypnotizes, and one can almost see a noir-esque film of these two women at opposite ends of a smoky bar. They've seen each other and ALMOST acknowledge each other before this internal dialogue begins in each of their heads - beautiful, nostalgic, and sad. The song ends and one of them finally rises... and then leaves, having gone from almost passion to almost disillusion to acceptance... ALMOST.
Just have a little listen here, my dearlings, and then go put this one in your stream for rainy days and alone time with a little wine (or something else that's ALMOST perfect)...
As you can hear, dear Bobby readers, these two Platinum-selling singer/songwriters have created a completely stylish duet for themselves, and there is nothing ALMOST about it. It rings true for anyone who has made it past the end of an affair that maybe they didn't want to end, but love ain't horseshoes and ALMOST didn't cut it. A little sad, yes, but it still gets...
